BPES (now BPPS) 80th Anniversary dinner on 31 August 2012

Our alma mater, BPES, celebrated her 80th Anniversary, (now known as BPPS), this year. The school organised the 80th Anniversary Dinner on Friday, 31 August 2012 at the Senja-Cashew Community Club from 7 to 10 pm.

Each ticket was priced at $80 and all proceeds from ticket sales was for the school fund-raising project to help its needy students. The VIP was Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.    An interesting note :-           Mr Vivian Balakrishnan's parents were teachers in the school in the early 60s. They fell for each other and got married while they were teachers there. Mr Vivian is their eldest.

Eight  of us and Mr Chow were there at the dinner.  When the organisers requested us to contribute an item for the dinner program, Mr Chow and Bon spontaneously became the spokespersons for our group. Each of them gave his account of the memories of BPES and school lives during our times. They deserved our applause for their eloquence and taking us down memory lane. BRAVO!

And we have also Sien Chi to thank for snapping these photos during the dinner......

Visiting Mr Kanda on 5 May2012

On 5 May 2012, Saturday, 9 of us met at Kranji MRT station at 9am, before heading off to the causeway and then to Mr Kanda's house in Johor Bahru. Thanks to Bala and Leong Keong who had offered to drive. And of course not forgetting Janet who initiated and organised the whole trip. Thanks to her for the smooth and efficient organising.

Since it was also Vesak Day, and crowd was anticipated, we were stuck in the jam for about 1 and half hours. When we reached JB, we made a short stopover at the Holiday Inn Plaza, near Mr Kanda's house, to pen our messages in a scrapbook of photos made for him and to sign a birthday card for him. We reached his house at about 12pm and were warmly welcomed by Mr Kanda, his wife, Saro and son, Uresh

While waiting for Bon, who had to play golf in the morning in JB, to join us, we chit chatted with Mr Kanda, who related to us interesting recollections of the days in BPES. What fantastic memory he had, for one who was 2 days away from his 78th birthday.

We ended the visit with a hearty meal at an Indian Restaurant near his house. See pictures below. It was a day well spent.  The weather was fine, not scorching hot like the other days during that week. Most importantly we had a good time catching up with old teacher and friends. Some have suggested making it a yearly affair and we hope to have more of our friends joining us next time when we meet again.
